Has any one seen a double cab long box with wheel to wheel boards? That is what I am considering. Or will this look funny. On the plus side it would have steps to help get stuff out of the box.
Check out mine for the most basic running board and tonyspin has nerfs but it's not a long bed. I think nerf looks sportier but you should do it for practical purposes over aesthetics.
finally some one else with a real truck a double cab long box. I like your boards that is basicly what I am looking for but am considering getting them wheel to wheel, yours stop at the end of the cab, I wonder if it would be to much?
Whatever brand you get, make sure they have at least 3, preferably 4 going all the way back, bolt onto frame brackets. If not, you will hear flexing and twisting noises going on around corners and over bigger bumps, believe me. Some aftermarket manufacturers cut corners and only have 2 bolt to frame brackets and that is not enough, not even for an extended cab. I would stick with Toyota's even though they are overpriced since if they do flex and creak over bumps/twists in the road, they have a decent manufacturer's warranty and can be returned for a refund. Some dealers, maybe the one you bought the tundra from, will go down to about 50 dollars over cost just to keep you as a future customer and do not let them charge you to have them to install the running boards. Anyone with a socket set and cardboard or rugs as to not scratch the chrome finish can install them within an hour or two. I will not buy another set of running boards since I feel they are too expensive and if I cannot either get up into the interior of the truck or go into the bed of the truck to get stuff out thru the tailgate, then I will no longer own a tundra, and I am only 5' 10" tall. Besides that, more than once I have either slipped going up or down from the seat due to the boards being slippery in the cold winter slush and I have also banged my calf muscles at times by not trying to use them and at times, they get in the way of exiting and entering the interior. But that is me, not you and if you want to, go for it.
I asked the dealership to add and install running boards to close the deal on my truck so they are whatever Toyota factory brand is. They aren't flashy but they are very practical, firm, and most of my passengers are short and need it, including the dog using it as an extra step sometimes. Yes, they can be slippery when wet but the main thing I love about them is I can wash the roof of my truck w/o needing a step ladder or extra bucket to stand on. I've never seen a set that run wheel-to-wheel but no I don't think it's too much if you have/want it for a purpose, like you said. Check with a dealership then find the brand elsewhere for less. Oh yeah - to get things out of the bed I just step on the back tires and hop in!
Thanks, if you would like to see what I am considering google excaliber running boards, very expensive but I think they look great and even have lights, they also mount right against the truck which would eliminate some road debris getting on the truck and into the door.
Just make sure you never remove the excaliber running boards since if you do, the paint on the truck will be totally gone from the rubber of the running boards touching and shifting all the time. They do look nice, but make sure the mounting surface is firmly pressed onto the painted metal because any gaps, small rocks, etc. will get caught up underneath and make matters worse in the long run. I use to have running boards firmly mounted onto the underneath of the truck pressed flush to the metal and over a few years, the rubber gasket started coming off and allowing debris to get in between. I decided once to take the running boards to clean, and I couldn't believe there was no paint left on the underside of the truck from where the running boards pressed against. If you leave the running boards on forever, not much paint damage can be seen as long as the running board material pushed firmly onto the painted metal stays in good shape.
Ya I know what you mean, had a Toyota with a box liner and it got beat up underneath. Seems what ever you do you will end up with some kind of damage, just need to determine if it will enhance your pleasure of using the truck. Thanks for the tips.
Did you ever find the running boards that you were looking for? I am looking for some that will blend with the truck. I have the double cab and the 6' bed. Would like for running boards from the front to the back of the cab. What did you decide on with yours. Could sure use some help with deciding and where to find the best deal.
Hi, I got a set from Excaliber, they are made here where I live ( Calgary, Canada ) very expensive but I am very happy with them and think they are quite unique. They have 3 steps one for each door and one for the box, very high quality, I can stand on them and have no flex ( I'm 230 lbs )
