About a month ago, I was at a stop sign on a step hill and as I took my foot off the brake to move forward, the truck rolled backward as if I had pushed in the clutch on a standard transmission. I wasn't able to see how far it would roll because I had to strp on the gas to avoid rolling into the following car. I have reproduced this on several hills since. I talked to the dealership and they claim this is all normal. I have never had this happen with other automatic transmissions. Have any of you experienced this?

considering the vast majority of the terrain here is pretty much flat... most of our property is at or below sea level i can't say i have done this in my tundra.

That being said.. any vehicle will roll back when presented with a steep enough incline. The variables in this are the torque of the truck (at idle RPM), while your foot is shifting from brake to gas, and the overall weight of the truck. As most 1/2 ton trucks are lighter than the tundra they have less tendency to roll on the same inclines. Truck usually are not optimized for power at 600 revolutions per minute you can expect a little roll, even more so if you have a load in your truck or a loaded trailer in tow.

Thank you for the reply. This is pretty much what the dealership said.

It is normal. The torque converter in the tundras doesn't really drag much unless it is in engine braking mode.

Thanks. I hadn't experienced this in my other automatic vehicles.

Definitely a normal thing - I'm on inclines out here in NorCal and it happens but it's not drastic. I think it just caught you off-guard but hope you'll get used to it now.

Thanks, now that I know that it can happen I will be careful!
