which COLD AIR INTAKE is the best in performance and fuel economy for 5.7 2009 Tundra?
I am leaning towards K&N for its well known name.
Do you realy need a pipe as well (freeflow exhaust) and any recomendation for a NOT too noisy freeflow?
Honestly Volant man you will feel the power as soon as install is done man! 20hp gains! Lemme know and I will get you a great deal on anything you decide on man! Anything you need for you r tundra lemme know!
I would think TRD was the best out there. I got the cheapest one which at the time was an AFE Stage II lifetime filter and needs no oil. Wash in mild detergent and let air dry. As for performance I couldn't tell you. They all claim so much H/P. What I can tell you I got an increase of 1.5mpg on mine. Not a whole lot to pay for the CAI. When you can get over 20mpg and up to 24.9mpg it all depends on where you drive, how you drive, weather, 4x4 vs 2x4. If you have a lift which causes more drag. Tires play a good deal also.
Honestly, I think all the CAIs are about the same give or take a decimal here or there from all the responses I've seen in the past two years. I have the K&N and it was priced appropriately. I've cleaned it twice and it's not that big of a deal for me but for others it is. Sounds fine, have some increases in fuel efficiency, and felt a difference immediately after the install without an exhaust. Most days I think I could have done without it but it's a neat mod to have on the truck just because and I was able to install it by myself.
NO expert, but from what others are saying, go with the one cheapest since most claim just about same increase in hp and mpg, but Cris states Volant gets slightly better hp and mpg, so if the price is similar to Volant vs. K&N, I'd get the Volant I guess.
I also agree but all claim big numbers most brands you cut in half! Volant truly helps, with a catback exhaust, and a bed cover you can get between 3-5 mpgs back. Also using you slapstick at cruising speeds by sticking it in sixth gear. Another little tip most dont know. If you have been romping on it, pedal to the floor alot and dont like your average mpg unplug your battery for 5-10 mins. It will reset your computer to stock settings, then drive normal and see the difference it will take a few trips for the computer system to mapp the way you drive. This is called mapping. Try it and see for your self.
Funny thing - I've been paying attention since that post on 6th and realized my truck shifts into 6th on its own. I must have trained it well and since my bike has 6 gears maybe that's just my driving style.
Listen to the tranny shift out from a stop and count them. If you only hear/feel 4 shift points, then it's in 5th....if you hear 5 then it went into 6th. Still shifting into 6th as of yesterday on my trip back from Austin.
