I'm considering purchasing new wheels / Tires for a 2008 Tundra CrewMax 4x2:

* Nitto Terra Grappler AT305/50R-20 XL 120S B
* MB Wheels Gunner 5 20X8.5 5-150 25AM

Eventually, I plan on installing the ToyTech leveling kit (3" in front, 1" in rear), but not initially. So, right now and in the short term, the truck has a standard stock suspension. The new Tires are a little more than 1" larger in diameter and width (there are 275/65R18 on it now).

Question: Is anybody running the same size tires on stock (non-lifted) suspension? Does the width effect turn radius (e.g. rubbing)? Is anybody running MB Wheels (Discount Tire brand)? Good or bad experiences? Any thoughts on Terra Grappler AT?

Pretty sure they will rub, my 2 cents, get the leveling kit done first. Rubbing is bad for your new tires and your truck, if your are going to level it anyway why wait?

Getting alignment done twice ain't cheap lol

Then buy your wheels and tires, have them mounted and balanced and placed in the bed of your truck. Then get your level kit installed and as part of the install have them put your new wheels and tires on, then do your alignment.

if you get your wheels and tires balanced and don't get the factory valve stems installed in your new wheels you will have a light on your dash on all the time telling you your tires are low. get everything done at the same time.

Good point on the pressure sensors, and agreed getting it done all at once is the way to go.

Discount Tire Direct actually mounts and balances the tires on the rims then ships them to you're location. All you have to do is replace you're existing ones with them. I guess I assumed that the TPMS sensors would be installed on the new wheels - is this not the case or is aftermarket sensors faulty?

Seems like it would be best to do this all at once. I guess I was a little hesitant about doing the lift right away because I don't want to mess with the factory warranty. Does anybody know how toyota will treat the warranty after the leveling kit is installed?

If you do 3" or less I have been told it will not void your warranty. I know the guys pretty well at the dealership next to me and they said if its a part that should not have gone bad then they will warranty the part, it is a part directly related to the lift then it will be up to the dealership.

With my tires I don't have the sensors in my wheels, but my stock tires are sitting in my driveway so every time I pull in to my drive way it resets the dash light, and stays off for a few days:) I am too cheap to go and get my tires re-mounted/balanced just to get the light off my dash.

I asked the dealership a year ago and it voids your suspension and any items related to it regardless of lift height. Toyota does sell a lowering kit which they will warrant if installed through the dealership.

I'm almost in the same situation and wondering how large I can go without changing the suspension. I'm not sold on the benefits of the lift yet but want meatier tires when the factories are ready to come off.

Are you ready for wheels and tires, or just tires? The leveling kit gives you room to go a little bigger and in some peoples opinions gives the truck a more custom look (I like mine), but if you like your ride height and and want to save a few bucks you can always swap out your wheels and tires and leave the ride alone. Just don't go too big, any tire shop can help you pick a package that will fit without changing your ride height.

Someday I would like to build a reg cab 2 wheel drive, drop it, supercharge it, and waste sports cars with it ;>

Neither - I'm almost at 24K w/lots of tread but plan to change the wheels when I need tires in case I go up to 20s. Considered a 6" lift but the main purpose of my truck is to haul the bike so don't want to make loading more difficult. Drove a friend's lifted F-150 for a few months and I agree it looks great but not sure what other benefits. May go with Toytec 3/1 since it won't look crazy with the factories. Also depends on how much it costs to get it installed. Besides the look, what changed for you? MPG, ride feel, etc? I may have asked this before.....Would LOVE to drop mine cuz I think Tundras look hella bad on the ground, but it's just not practical at all! Would be such a waste of 4X4.

The toytec didn't change the ride as far as I can tell, other than feeling a little bigger than the other trucks on the road and lighting up the headrests on the cars in front of me. I paid way too much for the install at a toyota dealer. 450 which felt like a ripoff after paying 300 for the parts. I don't think the leveling kit hurt my mpg, but the larger tires did. I have a lead foot, and I like to listen to the Borla which doesn't help, I avg 13. Agreed slammed turndras look awesome. But I am happy with my 4x4 too :)
