Those of you that have installed a 3"/1" lift/level kit- Have you noticed any effect (negative or positive) on your fuel economy? I am currently averaging 17.9 mpg and I am only looking to go up from here. I have been told that these kits can drop mpg by up to 2 per gallon. Anyone with any info care to share? Thanks.

The vehicles we've tested all saw about a 2mpg drop in fuel economy. Of course, it's probably more about tires than anything else. Just about every lift included a new aggressive tread set of tires.

We did install one kit on a truck and didn't change the tires (left em' stock), and the driver told me that fuel economy was the same. He drove mostly highway, so it sounds like the increased height doesn't hurt fuel economy too much. He wasn't getting as good of mileage as you were (about 16.5).

Hope that's useful.

sorry if i'm a bit nieve here but i am debating on buying the 5.7 or the 4.6 liter SR5 model. i am planning on leveling it and putting 33's on it. i know that MPG is going to be affected by the tires and lift, but will one model be affected more than the other?

Well the 4.6 is much slower then the 5.7 stock add big wheels and tires even slower gas mileage is pretty close Im guessing so go with 5.7 get a bed cover Cai and exhaust to help fuel!

JW - I think that, after you've added the accessories, the 5.7 will get better mileage. At best, the 4.6 with a lift kit and tires is going to do no better than a 5.7. As a general rule, bigger engines get better mileage under a load.
