2007 TUNDRA 5.7....Since new the engine at times sounds just like a engine running out of oil......that sound like the lifters are not pumped up with oil, but it comes out the bottom of the engine.....I have actually stopped at a red light and cut the truck off and checked the oil......FULL.....It rattles mostly when i come to a stop.......has a cold start up knock every morning .....Rear end whines when it warms up at 65 mph.......This is my 11th toyota and I guess it is my turn for a LEMON.......This engine problem appears to be a commom problem on other forums......Have taken it in 4 times to 2 different dealers and they all read from the same script.....normal operation.......wow......Shame on me for wanting a $30000 pick up that does not rattle or whine......Love the basic truck except the 5.7 and rear end.....Is there a engine recall in our near future??????Swaping certified letters between dealer and corporate at this time.......ALL I WANT IS A WHAT I AM PAYING FOR TO BE RIGHT........trucksaledave
that is odd. You definately need to bring that int othe shop and have them look at it. Mine heasitates between shifts but not really noticeable. There is a torque control system to keep the engine from eating the tranny but it should be barely noticeable.
thanks mark. mine does it at 60mps and feels like i take my foot off the gas and then back on. i have not had time to get into the dealer yet but i will soon.
Well sorry that didn't get you any where. I agree with Jeremy though if you have to get the tech out of the shop and make him drive your truck with you in it. I still have not had time to get to my dealer and ask them about my truck. Thanks for keeping my updated.
Mark: Its odd but my dealership told me to pull the power from my battery to reset my ecu. I left it off for about 30 min and it did what it was supposed to. My shifting works great now. They told me for most unexplainable problems like mine try resetting the ecu. Not sure if that helps you or not.
I know that the ECU collects a lot of data and that is why it takes a little while to break in your truck. They told me that it would not run as well after I reset the ECU and it only took a day or two to get back to normal. They would have done it for me but I know all the guys at my dealership and I would rather do it my self then have them take my truck.
Rotela 5w40 is a great oil......I change my own oil at 6000 miles dues to over-all cost of the 2 gallons of oil and the 52 plete Purolator oil filter # L25702.....The stock filter is only 41 pletes from Toyota...cost is lower at about $7.00.......The Rotela is $18.00 gal. and the purolator is $11.00. BUT the OVER ALL Protection is much better. So is the noise factor. I finally cut me a 4" by 7" squire out of the front pan so I could change the oil filter better......Works like a charm.......BOTTOM LINE.....the engine does sound much better with the Rotela. Rotela carries the highest rating of all oils......for gas and diesels. Being in the trucking business for 35 years has taught me a thing or two......JMHO....trucksaledave
wow you have quite the problem there sounds like you need to write toyota corporate and let them know whats up! as for the rear end wine is your truck lifted? whats the sound like? is it 4x4? what size truck ingle dcab or crewmax? and whats the deal with the motor cause there was a recal go to a dealer and ask them what were any and all recals on the tundra they have to tell you after that have them look up what the production date was when these trucks were made that tells you if ours falls under the recal! in certain months of certain years there were tundras that have recals maybe you got bad luck bro! lemme know if that helps
I also had the dealership tell me that the noise is normal. Mine is in the shop having the front differential and left front axle replaced with only 16,000 miles. It is found on a TSB. I hope they fix it well because I really like this truck. They gave me a dodge dakota loaner and this really makes me miss the tundra.
i have a 2008 tundra v6. Engine tapped also had electrical problems. i contacted the dealer and was told
the noise was normal. this was within 30 days of the purchase.
8 weeks after my purchase i contacted the dealership again i asked for a loaner so they could check out the truck.
Of course they couldn't do that. i decided to bring my truck in to be inspected they kept it for 18 days
and came to the conclusion that i "sabotaged" the truck by running it without oil. tried tmc they stand with
the dealer. i provided them with proper forms to prove maintenance work. the dealership stated that these forms prove nothing because if they didn't service the truck that they didn't have to honor any warranty, ihave been paying notes for six months now for a truck that i can't use.
