2007 TUNDRA 5.7....Since new the engine at times sounds just like a engine running out of oil......that sound like the lifters are not pumped up with oil, but it comes out the bottom of the engine.....I have actually stopped at a red light and cut the truck off and checked the oil......FULL.....It rattles mostly when i come to a stop.......has a cold start up knock every morning .....Rear end whines when it warms up at 65 mph.......This is my 11th toyota and I guess it is my turn for a LEMON.......This engine problem appears to be a commom problem on other forums......Have taken it in 4 times to 2 different dealers and they all read from the same script.....normal operation.......wow......Shame on me for wanting a $30000 pick up that does not rattle or whine......Love the basic truck except the 5.7 and rear end.....Is there a engine recall in our near future??????Swaping certified letters between dealer and corporate at this time.......ALL I WANT IS A WHAT I AM PAYING FOR TO BE RIGHT........trucksaledave
I'm the first to say I don't like my local dealer and refuse to let them touch my Tundra because of an initial screw up, but when it came down to it they had exactly what I needed at the right price. I don't like my cell company either but face it they offer the best service for the right price. Just have to pick the best of all evils in any case.
Jeremy, thanks for your opinion, and is just that. The facts are: I have owned 11 Toyota's in the past 28 years and currently own a FINE 2000 4-Runner and the problem ridden Tundra. I have and currently think TMC builds the very best cars and trucks in the USA period. I just happen to have a 2007 Tundra that they do not want to take ownership and fix the problems. As far as "Here Is your solution" I have called, wrote letters, cert letters, called again......In TMC quest to be # 1 they have forgot the "Loyal Repeat Customers". this is fact not opinions........trucksaledave
So many people telling you what to do with your truck, so many people arguing over whats wrong with it, some saying there is nothing wrong...WHEN WILL THID MADNESS END?!?!? lol
Just drive the d@&$ thing and drive it hard......Mmmmmmm my baby is in the shop getting his oil change/tires rotated. God I love the sound of that exhaust!! Never been outside to hear it start up til this morning when my landlord got it out of the garage to take it in. Perfect sound to wake up to in the morning.
Guy's thanks.......At my age I don't get mad anymore, I just get even.....I have already been mad.....Did not work......It is sad that most people and companies only understand two things....pain and being broke ..........The local dealer has forgotten a golden business rule.....IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE PRODUCT OR SERVICES TELL EVERYONE...BUT....IF YOU ARE DISSATISFIED PLEASE TELL ME.....sad that they are not listening.................
It's one of the few perks I have out here in California. I refuse to sell my house in Texas to move where the ground shakes with no warning. My baby is back home and resting in the garage......
I have noticed here in WI at cold weather start ups in the mornings, that the engine at idle will knock and keep knocking and then after driving it a few miles and warming up, the knocking goes way down. Besides this, here were/are my problems:
1. Driver's door panel is rubbing on the left lower dash area about a foot below the rear view outside mirror when closing door. Dealer fixed this by ordering a new door and repositioning the driver's door and glueing a plastic clip tighter holding the door panel closer to the inside parts of the door. After looking at 2 other 07 Tundra's on the dealers' lot, both of the drivers door panels were also rubbing causing the dark grey plastic to show scuffing even on new tundras. I suggest to all 07 and later Tundra owners to try passing one sheet of regular paper thru the supposed gap between the drivers door in front about 6-10 inches below the triangular mirror area. I bet several 1,000 of these door panels are rubbing on the left flat side of the dash panel and causing chaffing of plastic and noises.
2. Interior clock area lighting is too dim to read in full sunlight in the middle part of the dash. No solutions, just have to live with it.
3. Rattles in drivers side dash speaker cover in upper left corner of instrument panel touching drivers' A-pillar, rattle in middle speaker cover in middle part of dash, loose silver drivers door trim where power window switches are probably due to the dealer not tightening the new door panel tight enough once replaced.
4. drivers seat had to be replaced - brackets under seat clunked over every bump in the road.
5. Bed bounce, but this is an ongoing issue with this truck - just have to get used to it I suppose?
6. Inside tailgate is too thin to support any weight on it even my one thumb which if I wanted to, my one thumb pressing on the inside bottom of the tailgate could dent it very easily, let alone loading my ATV into the bed of the truck - cheap metal way too think is obvious.
7. Toyota should be ashamed that you have to remove 8 bolts and take off the entire skid plate to change oil filter. Oh, by the way, one of the smaller 3 bolts holding on the front gray plastic liner to the front of the skid plate was missing after only 20K due to the fact that Toyota uses cheap grey plastic clips to thread the bolt into that must have broke. I verified this at the Toyota dealer quick lube and they admit they have had to replace several dozen since 2007.
8. Black cheaply made plastic oil filter cover where your oil filter wrench grabs onto to loosen and take off the cap to change the oil filter paper element is extremely hard to get off even after cranking extremely hard with over 1/2 of the threads already off. I also verified this at the Toyota dealer quick lube and they admit also they have a hard time removing this cap probably due to the fact that it is threaded plastic that the grooves go onto the metal threads of the oil filter housing. Why can't Toyota build a metal threaded oil filter cap to match the metal housing?
